Over the past year or two there has been a resurgence in demand for the GT Turbo due to its low cost and high levels of performance potential. Right now its a known quantity allowing for anyone with a budget to buy and make a high horsepower Starlet. Back in the mid-2000s Starlet tuning hit its peak in terms of power output, tuning development and popularity. This means the last legal EP82 to enter our shores was in 1999 and the last EP91 would be 2003. Unlike Europe where there is a constant flow of Starlets here there is a three year import restriction. An underhood sticker indicates that the last timing belt service was performed around 100k kilometers.The GT Turbo is a dying breed in Jamaica. The selling dealer has serviced the car with an oil and filter change, fluid checks, and a general inspection. An HKS blow-off valve and a Fujitsubo exhaust system were fitted under previous ownership, and the seller reports that the clutch feels firmer than a factory item. Factory-rated output was 133 horsepower, and drive is sent to the front wheels via a five-speed manual transaxle. Power is provided by a 1,331cc 4E-FTE inline-four with a CT9 turbocharger and a top-mount intercooler. 169k kilometers (~105k miles) are shown on the mechanical odometer. A three-spoke aftermarket steering wheel fronts the factory cluster, which includes a 180-km/h speedometer, a 9k-rpm tachometer, and fuel level, coolant temperature, and boost gauges. The car is also equipped with air conditioning and an aftermarket stereo set up for Japanese frequencies.
